Writing a Grant Cover Letter
Imagine you have a research idea, a community initiative, or an academic project that could genuinely make a difference — but it needs funding. In many institutions and organisations, the first thing that decides whether your proposal gets read at all is a cover letter. One page. A few paragraphs. And yet those few paragraphs can open or close a door entirely.
In this activity, you will write a cover letter for an academic grant proposal. You will study the structure and conventions of formal academic correspondence, work with language for making a persuasive case, and practise the tone and register expected at B2 level in professional and academic contexts.
By the end of this activity, you will be able to write a structured, formal cover letter that presents an academic proposal clearly and persuasively, using appropriate conventions for B2-level academic writing.
