The Art of Persuasion

Have you ever walked away from a discussion feeling that you had the stronger argument but failed to convince anyone? Or listened to someone speak and found yourself agreeing with them before you had even finished thinking it through? Persuasion is not just about having the right ideas. It is about how you frame them, how you respond to challenge, and how you hold the attention of your audience.

In this activity, you will take part in a structured debate or discussion task designed to practise strategic argumentation at C1 level. You will prepare and present a clear position, respond to a rebuttal, and work with rhetorical language for persuading, qualifying claims, and maintaining your argument under pressure.

By the end of this activity, you will be able to construct, present and defend a persuasive argument in English using C1-level discourse strategies, including appropriate language for framing claims, countering objections, and reaching well-supported conclusions.
